Lately Lanvin has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons: declining profits, the unceremonious ousting of creative director Alber Elbaz in 2015 and the ugly lawsuit that ensued.
But it looks like Bouchra Jarrar, who just showed her first collection for the 187-year old fashion house, has hit refresh.
Jarrar, who has worked for Balenciaga and Christian Lacroix and closed her eponymous line to take up the helm of Lanvin, has a knack for precision tailoring, draping and creating.
Held at the opulent Hôtel de Ville, fluid silhouettes, new takes on the tuxedo and a mainly black and white palette set the tone. Streamlined separates – longline vests, biker jackets, sharply cut trousers – made way for more theatrical touches like feathered collars and bolts of cobalt blue.
See-through blouses and skirts mightn’t be everyone’s cup of tea (and will no doubt come lined once the styles hit stores), but all in all Jarrar’s vision for the house is both sophisticated and super-wearable.
