The Reason Prince George Only Ever Wears Shorts

So it’s not just because it’s cute then

When we see photos of Prince George we’re normally focused on how freaking adorable he is. Those cheeks. That smile.

And while we do totally notice his adorable outfits (have you heard of the Prince George Effect?) there’s one thing we didn’t really pick up, until now.

The three-year-old future King of England is only ever seen wearing shorts (we’ll wait while you do a mental inventory…)

Yep, you see it now?

Despite the oft-chilly weather in old England or most recently in Canada last week, the tot is always rocking a pair of shorts, usually (but not always) paired with knee-high socks.

“It’s a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts,” etiquette expert William Hanson tells Harper’s Bazaar UK.

“Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England. Although times are (slowly) changing, a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered quite middle class – quite suburban. And no self-respecting aristo or royal would want to be considered suburban. Even the Duchess of Cambridge.”

Hanson added that the most likely reason the royal still choose to do this is to stick with tradition and a nod to the past.

“The British upper set are always keen to hold onto to tradition, and this one also silently marks them out from ‘the rest.'”
