Hands up who’s obsessed with The Crown? Have you been binge-watching it and finding yourself googling characters and events from the show to see just how accurate it is? (Or is that just us?)
Well if you have, you would find that the show is pretty darn accurate, from the casting down to the set and the costumes, no expense has been spared. Literally.

Netflix has invested a whopping $170 million into the show – making it the most expensive TV show ever made – and while all the costumes are lavish across the board, none moreso than the replica of Queen Elizabeth’s wedding dress worn by actress Clare Foy in the first episode of the series.
The gown, which is an exact replica of the one Elizabeth wore to marry Prince Phillip at Westminster Abbey in 1947, took seven weeks to perfect and cost a whopping $50,000 (£30,000).

The original gown was designed by royal couturier Sir Norman Hartnell was ivory silk and adorned with crystals and 10,000 seed pearls and had a dramatic15 foot train.
Hartnell says he wanted to create “the most beautiful dress I had so far made”.
“It took five days to shoot that scene, and the dress, an exact replica, weighed a ton,” Foy told The Telegraph. “All the fiddling to get it right, and needing the loo and you’ve got a crown on your head. For this young woman to be wearing all that and then have the composure to walk through the Abbey full of dignitaries and heads of state, and then having to be anointed… It must have taken huge gumption.”
The good news for fans is the show has already started filming season two in London!
