Play School has been a much-loved children’s program ever since it first broadcast 18 July 1966 on the ABC. It has taken many of us through our childhoods, teaching creativity, kindness and friendship. Now, take a trip down memory lane with the National Museum of Australia’s nostalgic Play School exhibition to celebrate 50 years of the show.
Iconic props from the show, including the Square, Arched and Round windows, the Rocket Clock and the Flower Clock will be on display.
While the show was based off the original version, broadcast in the UK in 1964 on the BBC, this version stopped production in 1988, while Australia’s version has been going strong ever since.
In addition to the nostalgic props, the exhibition also celebrates the work of its dedicated presenters. You can experience the stories of people like Benita Collings, who has recorded the highest number of Play School episodes – 401!
The exhibition is called Happy Birthday Play School and was developed in collaboration with the ABC. It will be showing at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra until July 24, 2016.
