Adele paid emotional tribute to George Michael at the Grammys with a performance of Fast Love last night.

But midway through the performance the British singer stopped abruptly, before producers cut her sound for a moment. As the music died away, Adele could be heard saying “I know it’s live TV… I’m sorry for swearing, and I’m sorry for starting again.”

“I can’t mess this up for him,” she said in reference to singing legend George Michael, who passed away at his home in 2016.

As the music began again, many of the celebrities in the audience could be seen standing and cheering or wiping away tears.

Ellen and Bette Midler were among those who tweeted their support of the singer.
