His bail conditions have now been changed

Following the news of last week’s shock arrest of Channel 9 reporter Ben McCormack on child pornography charges, the A Current Affair journalist has been admitted to an institution to receive treatment for his mental health.

McCormack’s lawyer, Sam Macedone, alerted the Downing Centre Local Court today in a bid to change the terms of his bail, the Daily Mail reports.

McCormack’s bail conditions had included reporting to Redfern Police Station twice a week (as well as a ban from visiting playgrounds and communication with anyone under 16), but the first condition has now been lifted for as long as he remains a patient.

At Macedone’s request, Downing Centre Local Court granted a suppression order on the name of the institution where McCormack is being treated.

A Current Affair addressed the charges on their Thursday night show, with stand-in host Leila McKinnon telling viewers they would report on the case “without fear or favour.”
