Cate Campbell did Australia proud at the Rio 2016 Olympics this year, representing us in the 4 x 100 freestyle team event, the 4 x 100m medley team event, and the 50m and 100m freestyle events.
She helped bring home a gold medal as part of the 4 x 100m freestyle team, and a silver medal as part of the 4 x 100m medley team, which her sister Bronte also competed in. Unfortunately, she missed out on medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle events, despite beating the Olympic record in the heats and semifinals (with times of 52.87 and 52.71 seconds).

She has opened up about the events in an interview with Channel 7, saying she feels great ‘shame’ about them.
“It’s a hard one because, I don’t want to reflect on it.”
“Every time I do, I feel overwhelmed with embarrassment and shame.”
At this point her sister Bronte jumped in and said, “Cate has nothing to be ashamed of.”
Though Cate has recently suffered a hernia, she told The Australian that this would have had no impact on her performance.
“I want it to be very clear that I do not make any excuses for my poor performances this past week,” she said.
She is set to undergo surgery in October for the hernia, for the second time in 12 months.
Win or no win, Bronte is right – Cate did Australia proud and she swum her heart out at the games, and we should all be focusing on her incredible successes!
