Debra Messing’s Plea To Ivanka Trump: Stop Defending Your Father

“It’s not enough to simply say that women’s issues are important to you”

“It is time to make America gay again!” was the rallying cry from Will & Grace star Debra Messing at the 28th GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday.

In an emotional speech the actress called on Ivanka Trump, 35, daughter of US President Donald Trump, to stand up for women’s and gay rights in light of the current political climate.

“Ivanka, please stop blindly defending your father and start defending what you say you believe in,” Messing said.

“It’s not enough to simply say that women’s issues are important to you.”

The actress continued: “Ivanka, you can change the lives of millions of women and children just by telling your dad stories about real people who are suffering. Don’t let him separate immigrant mothers from their American-born children.”

Messing added that the return of Will & Grace to TV screens in September was timelier than ever following Trump’s election to office.

According to Variety, comedian and TV star Rosie O’Donnell also mocked the president at the GLAAD Media Awards ceremony with a text saying: “F–k you, Donald. From the gays.”

Girls star Andrew Rannells, actor Zachary Quinto and comedian Trevor Noah were among the celebs who attended the event.

The GLAAD Media Awards celebrate media for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
