The convicted murderer is reportedly “not coping” in jail

Gerard Baden-Clay who is serving a life sentence of the murder of his wife Allison has reportedly broken down in prison.

Baden-Clay was reportedly working in the prison’s metal shop when he started “sobbing uncontrollably” and had to be returned to his cell.

Seven News report that the 46-year-old told prison staff the “full reality of his murder conviction” is dawning on him and he is struggling to cope with the life sentence.

According to the Courier Mail, Baden-Clay still wears his wedding ring and has photos of him and Allison on his cell wall. 

Baden-Clay was convicted of murder in 2014 but the Court of Appeal downgraded the charge to manslaughter in December 2015.

In August the High Court ruled that his conviction for the murder of his wife in 2012 will stand, exhausting all avenues of appeal.

He is currently serving a life sentence and will be eligible for parole in 2027.
