Prison phone records show a mother’s undying love for her daughter
Despite a privileged upbringing and a promising future ahead of her, in 2014 Harriet Wran, daughter of former NSW Premier Neville Warn and socialite Jill Hickson-Wran found herself in a jail cell facing murder charges after a $70 drug deal went wrong.
Last week, the 28-year-old pleaded guilty to accessory to murder in the NSW Supreme Court as well as robbing $650, after it was agreed the prosecutors would withdraw her murder charge.
After her hearing, as Wran was led from the courtroom, the ABC reports she was seen mouthing ‘I love you mum’, to her mother who has stood by her daughter throughout her trial.
When Hickson-Wran was stopped by reporters outside the courtroom, she simply said, “I couldn’t love her more.”
Despite her daughter’s fall from grace, new transcripts from phone calls recorded by NSW Corrective Services and published by The Sunday Telegraph, show the strong bond between the mother and daughter, despite her arrest.
“Maybe you should just forget about me like, just …” Wran tells her mother in a call that was made after her arrest on August 13, 2014.
Before Hickson-Wran cuts her off and says, “I love you, Harriet.”
“I know but like, just leave me behind like,” she tells her mother.
To which her mother simply replies, “No darling.”
The pair continue to talk about how Wran is “so sorry” for ruining her mother’s reputation, and again asks her mother to abandon her.
“When you say these things, I understand,” Hickson-Wran tells her daughter. “I love you and I’m not abandoning you.
“I don’t think you should,” she replies.
“I f … ed up too much (and) I feel like you should just move on and just…,” she said, before her mother once again interjects.
“But, darling, that’s not possible, it’s not possible, so we’re going to move on together.”
Wran is due to appear back in court on July 14 for sentencing for the charges of accessory to murder which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years.
