Isla Fisher Plagiarises Michelle Obama During Her AACTA Awards Acceptance Speech

And it was hilarious!

Isla Fisher returned home to Australia to attend last night’s AACTA awards and to accept the Trailblazer Award.

The actress kept her acceptance speech light, thanking her peers for not being available to accept the award so she could.

“I really have to thank my fellow actors, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Margot Robbie and Toni Collette – all of whom were no doubt offered this award first and they couldn’t make it here tonight so, yay!” she joked.

She also talked about the lack of roles in Hollywood for “gingers”, because “Amy Adams took them all”.

But then The Wedding Crashers star went political, sort of, breaking into part of Michelle Obama’s now infamous 2008 speech which incoming First Lady Melania Trump famously plagiarised back in July.

“From a young age my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in this life, that your word is your bond, you say what you want to do and you keep your promises, that you treat people with respect,” she said – before pointing out she’d copied the words from the First Lady.

”I figured if Melania Trump can use them and have success, I should try,” she said.

But it wasn’t just Melania in her sights, she also took a dig at her husband, Donald Trump.

“I do need to thank Trump. I don’t think I’d be here if it weren’t for him showing the world that unqualified orange people can win things.”

But she did take a moment to acknowledge the moment, and described reeiving the award as “the pinnacle of my career so far”.

“[It’s] a complete honour to come home and be supported. It feels incredible.”

Isla was joined at the awards by her husband, Sasha Baron Cohen, with the couple celebrating 15 years together.
