The footage of a female judge in Kentucky in the United States has gone viral after she erupts when a female inmate is presented to the court rom without pants.
The judge, Amber Wolf, judge stops proceedings when she realises the woman, who has been in custody for three days, has allegedly not been giving pants or female hygiene products.
“Excuse me?” she said in court. “This is outrageous. Is this for real?”
She then calls the jail where the woman has been held, demanding answers.
“I have a defendant who has been in you all’s jail for three days who is standing in front of me completely pants-less. Has no pants on,” Wolf said on the phone, presumably to jail administrators. “She has requested pants for three days and has been denied pants for three day. She has no pants and she is in court. And she has also been denied feminine hygiene products. What the hell is going on?”
The woman, who was actually wearing a pair of short athletic shorts which were covered by a large t-shirt, was picked up for failing to compete a diversion program for a 2014 shoplifting charge, which was a first offence.
“I’m not trying to embarrass you. I’m very sorry,” Wolf said to the woman as she called the jail. “Can we get her something to cover up with? Anything. Anything. Anything.”
The judge released the woman with a $100 fine and time served, according to the jail.
Steve Durham, assistant director for Louisville Metro Department of Corrections told the Washington Post that is said it is “pretty standard” that individuals remain in the clothing they were arrested in, “especially for the first 72 hours.”
According to the inmates handbook, “Feminine products will be distributed to each female living area daily.”
The judge has not commented on the incident.
