A Muslim woman who has been vilified for “casually” walking past scenes of devastation after the London terror attack this week has spoken out.

Earlier this week a photo of the woman went viral after a Twitter user accused her of texting on her phone as people lay dying around her.

Now, in a statement posted on the Twitter account of Tell MAMA UK, a British website that monitors anti-Muslim incidents, the woman has responded.

“What the image does not show is that I had talked to other witnesses to try and find out what was happening, to see if I could be of any help, even though enough people were at the scene attending to the victims.

The woman added that when the photograph was taken she had just called her family to tell them she was ok and was “making my way home from work, assisting a lady along the way by helping her get to Waterloo station.”

She said, “My thoughts go out to all the victims and their families”.

Her comments comes after the photographer behind the image, Jamie Lorriman, spoke out in her defence yesterday. According to the ABC, he said that “in the other picture in the sequence [the woman] looks truly distraught … personally I think she looks distressed in both pictures”.
