Selena Gomez made a heartwarming return to the spotlight at yesterday’s American Music Awards. The star, who recently spent time in a treatment facility to work on her mental health, and she took to the stage to deliver a powerful speech thanking her fans and urging them to look after themselves.
“In 2014 this stage was actually the first time that I was authentically 100% honest with all of you. I think it’s safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life, whether I liked it or not,” said Selena as she accepted the Favourite Female Artist- Pop/Rock award.

“And I had to stop. ‘Cause I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside. And I kept it altogether enough to where I would never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down,” she continued.
“I’m not trying to get validation nor do I need it anymore. All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love.
“If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken.”
Following the speech, Selena received an outpouring of support from fans but none moreso than from her celebrity friends, who rallied behind the brave star.
Backstage Hailee Steinfeld greeted the star with a hug, and Niall Horan ambraced the star and reportedly told her, “You did so good”.
“So dope I got to hang with with the biggest rockstar of the night. (Ya,know besides Sting and Green Day) …the girl with the biggest prize of all a BIG Heart that she shares with the world,” wrote Lady Gaga alongside a snap of the pair backstage.
