So by now we all know about the epic fail that saw the wrong film read out during the award for Best Picture at this week’s Oscars.
But it turns out there was another major blunder during the show.
During the In Memoriam section of the show, a picture of Australian producer Jan Chapman was shown alongside the name ‘Janet Patterson’.
Only thing is Jan Chapman is still *very* much alive.
Janet Patterson, an Australian costume designer was a four-time Oscar nominee for her work on The Piano, The Portait of a Lady, Oscar and Lucinda and Bright Star, did however pass away in 2016.
“I was devastated by the use of my image in place of my great friend and long-time collaborator Janet Patterson,” Chapman said in an email to Variety.
“I had urged her agency to check any photograph which might be used and understand that they were told that the Academy had it covered. Janet was a great beauty and four-time Oscar nominee and it is very disappointing that the error was not picked up.”
The photo appeared to be a wrongly captioned photo from Getty Images from 2010.
While the In Memoriam section did (correctly) honour stars including Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds and Gene Wilder, there was another star noticably absent; Alexis Arquette.
Her sister Patricia has labelled the snub a “slight to the trans community”.
“I think that was a real slight to the trans community, especially at this time, when trans kids can’t even go to the bathroom in the United States of America at school,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
“It says a lot about the lack of inclusion. Trans kids can really never look at anyone and see their heroes, and I think that was a big mistake.”
Alexis died in September 2016 of cardiac arrest after living with HIV for 29 years.
