A beauty clinic manager who went into cardiac arrest after an alleged breast implant procedure is still unconscious in hospital. As Nine News reports, 35-year-old Jean Huang remains in a critical but stable condition.
“If she does [survive], it’s anticipated she will have some degree of brain damage,” police said in a statement on Thursday in Central Local Court.
Jean Huang is the manager and co-founder of the Medi Beauty Clinic in Sydney. She was rushed to hospital on Wednesday after the procedure allegedly went wrong at her own clinic.
Jie Shao, who allegedly performed the procedure, has been charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and administering a poison. The procedure was to reportedly put fillers into Ms Huang’s breasts.
According to the ABC, the court heard that Ms Shao administered a local anaesthetic and breast filler. The prosecution claims that Ms Shao is not licensed to practice in New South Wales.
The court heard that Huang was not breathing when paramedics arrived at her clinic on Carlton Street, Broadway. She was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Ms Shao, 33, arrived on a tourist visa in Australia just five days ago. In court, Ms Shao’s solicitor Mary Underwood, said her client had specialised in dermatology at Canton University and asked the magistrate to grant bail.
But Magistrate Sharon Freund denied bail, saying Ms Shao posed a potential risk to the community.
Operators at the clinic declined to provide a comment to Fairfax.
