Pinterest’s 2018 Wedding Report Is Here! This Is What Brides Are Pinning

Get ready for pretzel bars and LOTS of confetti

He’s popped the question, you’ve said yes and suddenly, you’re faced with 1,749,0625 decisions about what kind of wedding you’ll have. Enter: Pinterest’s 2018 Wedding Report, a compilation of insights into what brides are searching for and saving this year.

Published this morning, the report indicates that brides “are going back to basics with natural make-up and venues, and focusing on making meaningful memories with loved ones.” Also, they’re getting pretzel bars. And hot air balloons. Which goes some way to explain the average cost of a wedding in Australia right now…

1/ Wedding cakes

From three-tier creations adorned with fresh figs to rustic white buttercream frosting and lashings of gold leaf, cakes are falling into three categories: figs (up 575%); metallic decorations (up 476%) and minimal white (up 235%).

2/ Food

Today’s brides are all about extremes, with vegan wedding food up 186% in searches, topped only by… pretzel bars (up 343%). Carb-obsessed brides are also looking to serve pizza on their big days (up 120%) and midnight snacks – think mini ice-cream cones and sliders.

3/ Flowers

Struggling to think of a bonbonniere guests will actually want to take home? Potted plants are up 782% in wedding searches. Suspended flowers have also risen by 346%, but on the minimalist end of the scale, single stem proteas are proving popular (up 121%) as are low-key, simple arrangements.

4/ Styling

DIY confetti is trending, with searches up 432%, as is getting married outdoors, with Pinterest searches for ‘natural altars’ up 259%.

5/ One-of-a-kind arrivals

If Pinterest is anything to go by, in 2018, it’s all about getting to your wedding in a hot air balloon. Searches are up 356% for ‘one of a kind arrivals’, most of which seem to involve ballooning, followed by boats, scooters and choppers. Suddenly, that vintage Rolls Royce is so 2013.
