During last year’s Academy Awards, the world bore witness to many history-making moments.
From Chloé Zhao becoming the first woman of colour to win Best Director to Frances McDormand howling at the moon, there was plenty that’ll go down in the history books. So this year, all eyes are on the 2022 Oscars nominations to begin making bets as to who will take home the coveted gold statue.
This time around, the most notable recognition of work goes to Australian royalty, Nicole Kidman, for her stellar performance as Lucille Ball in Being The Ricardos. Given that the film received critical acclaim and endless praise, there’s no wonder why our former marie claire cover star could take out the top spot in the Best Actress category—and we’ll definitely have our fingers crossed.
Joining her is first-time Oscar nominee Kristen Stewart for her role as the late Princess Diana in Spencer. But while audiences felt yet another Diana biopic was unnecessary—especially so soon after Emma Corrin’s incredible performance in The Crown—it was made clear from the get-go that Stewart’s work as the late Princess deserved an accolade. And now, she may just get one.
However, while many highly praised films—hello, The Lost Daughter—did receive the recognition it deserved, it was hard to forget the notable work that were snubbed. When the nominations were released, all eyes peeled the names to see House Of Gucci, but alas, the only nod it’s receiving is a nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Despite Lady Gaga and Adam Driver’s fantastic performance or the film’s adapted screenplay from real life events, it apparently wasn’t enough to score a nod from the Academy.
As for when we’ll find out the winners, the 94th Academy Awards are set to air on Monday, March 28 from 11am AEST.
