3 Shoe Rules You Need To Know This Autumn

Step right up

There’s no such thing as too many shoes, right? Here’s how to step into the new season in style, with a little help the THE OUTNET.COM’s 350+ designers at up to 75% off!

# 1/ Go classic with a twist

Today’s must-have styles combine timeless shapes with next-level details – think block heels with silver studs, suede flats with lace-up straps or peep-toe pumps in a graphic print. “Hardwear, embroidery or an interesting colour like burgundy keep the feeling current,” says marie claire market editor Tara Morris. “But a classic silhouette makes them ultra-wearable.”

L-R: Iris & Ink suede pumps, $198; Alexander Wang ‘Elise’ studded suede pumps, $400; Dolce & Gabbana patent leather sandals, $433, all The Outnet.

# 2/ Don’t save special styles for after dark

Not only will a pair of polished shoes instantly upgrade daytime looks, but you’ll get much more mileage by wearing them in the AM. “To me, shoes are the most important element of an outfit as they’re the make-or-break element to feeling ‘done’,” says Morris. “I live in jeans and a ribbed knit, so at the moment I’m adding suede mules or kitten heels to dress them up. That way my outfit will work around the clock.”

L-R: Iris & Ink Nubuck Mules, $177; Oscar de la Renta ‘Azra’ embellished glossed leather pumps, $462; Saint Laurent ‘Kate’ crystal-embellished leather sandals, $463, all The Outnet.

# 3/ When in doubt, go black

“Black is always a no brainer, especially as we’re headed into winter,” says Morris. “A pair of black boots, loafers or lace-up flats will work with literally everything you own, and you’ll be wearing them for seasons to come.”

L-R: 3.1 Phillip Lim ‘Quinn’ denim-paneled leather loafers, $245; Chloe lace-up suede ballet flats, $259; Alexander Wang ‘Hanne’ leather ankle boots, $415, all The Outnet.
