A pregnant 12-year-old girl has reportedly been taken to hospital by her 35-year-old husband in China.
The Sun reports that the girl had been trafficked into China from Vietnam, where she was forced to marry a Chinese man.
She was believed to be 4 months pregnant when the man, along with a woman, took her to hospital, trying to pass her off as 20.
A member of staff at the hospital in Xuzhou, China said: “It’s obvious she is just a child.”
Hospital staff questioned the pair, who were asking for a routine scan of the baby.
“I took her here to be examined — just do your job. Stop asking so many questions,” the man reportedly told staff.
Hospital staff called police and the man has since been arrested.
Officials are now working to locate the girls family in Vietnam after she revealed she is originally from Hanoi and provided names of her family members.
“So far there have been no results,” Major General Ho Sy Tien, director of the Criminal Police Department with Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security tells The Sun. “We have yet to find her family, though initial findings of the case have been published in the media, so anyone who may know her can inform the police,” he said.
Police believe the girl was abducted and smuggled across the border between 2010 and 2011, she would have been just six or seven at the time.
