A five-year-old girl who was found abandoned at a bus terminal in New York City has led police to a tragic discovery at her Connecticut home.
The girl was reportedly abandoned by her father, and when police attempted to return her to her home, they found her mother dead, reports CBS New York.
A manhunt is now underway for the father, who has been identified as Elmer Gomez Ruono, who reportedly told his daughter, to “wait here,” but he never returned.
Police haven’t released details of the woman’s death, but are investigating the case as a homicide and Mr Ruono considered a person of interest.
The NY Post reports that the family had recently moved from New Jersey and hosted a party to celebrate their new home on Sunday night.
A domestic dispute reportedly erupted after the party ended, according to police.
The girl is said to be unharmed and remains in police custody while they attempt to track down relatives.
