In 2012, Indian woman Lalita Ben Bansi was the victim of a horrific acid attack at the hands of her cousin after a minor argument.
Lalita’s face was severely disfigured and she had to undergo 17 surgeries. The 26-year-old told Metro that "I had never thought that I would ever get married”.
But after accidentally dialing a wrong number, Lalita found the love of her life, 27-year-old Ravi Shankar.
After talking on the phone and dating for two-months, the couple set a wedding date. This week Lalita and Ravi Shankar tied the knot at a colourful ceremony in Mumbai.
"Who would have thought an acid attack and 17 surgeries later I would find love. But it happened," Lalita told the Hindustan Times. “Shankar taught me to believe in love. It is a fresh start.”
“I liked her from the beginning,” the groom added. “I had to only convince my mother to accept my choice. I had to make Lalita believe that she too had the right to a better life."
