Just a few days ago, Adele was in the news for revealing she may never perform live again after the final shows of her current tour.
And over the weekend, said tour came to an end sooner than anticipated when the singer cancelled her final two London shows at the very last minute.
In a message posted to Instagram, Adele wrote that she had been instructed by doctors not to perform and was “devastated” to have to cancel on her fans.
“The last two nights at Wembley have been the biggest and best shows of my life,” she wrote.
“To come home to such a response after so long away doing something I never thought I could pull off but did has blown me away. However, I’ve struggled vocally on both nights. I had to push a lot harder than I normally do.”
“I’m already maxed out on steroids and aids for my voice,” she added. “I’ve considered doing Saturday night’s show but it’s highly unlikely I’d even make it though the set and I simply can’t crumble in front of you all and walk out on you in that way.”
“I’m so desperate to do them that I’ve even considered miming, just to be in front of you and be with you. But I’ve never done it and I cannot in a million years do that to you. It wouldn’t be the real me up there.”
Though Adele noted that refunds would be available and also mentioned how sorry she was for the “time and money” fans spent organising their trips, many who had planned on attending the shows were unimpressed.
“Adele cancelling her show tomorrow night saying she’ll refund tickets… bet she won’t refund the train down, hotel and flights back,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“Sick to the pit of my stomach, it has cost me & my husband over £1000 on flights and hotel to come down from Scotland to be left disappointed and let down! We have looked forward to this and tried to get tickets for years! Fly home tomorrow, totally wasted journey and time off work!” another distressed fan wrote.
However, others rallied beside the singer with some even heading to Wembley Stadium to sing Adele songs outside the venue.
