A tiered yellow maxidress opened the show – to a collective sigh from the audience – followed by a melange of sorbet shades from tangerine to raspberry, lime and limencello, tempered by chic neutrals. Aje’s signature puff sleeves met bold ruffles and cheeky cut-outs, while sweet minidresses were dressed up with dramatic bows or sprinkled with hand-beaded daisies. In a new direction for the brand, there was cool-girl suiting and relaxed two-piece sets, rendered in highlighter hues and overblown florals.
“I loved the prints – something fresh and new for the brand,” said marie claire fashion director Naomi Smith. “And there was great diversity in the models cast.”
Those models, including Shimma, Sabah Koj and Jasmine O’Neill, strode the circular catwalk in braided sandals, Aje x Superga sneakers and shapely raffia hats - accessories sure to become fixtures in our summer 2021/22 wardrobes. Now to plan a dreamy holiday.
