Alexa Chung Reveals Her Battle With Endometriosis

"It sucks"

Alexa Chung took to Instagram to reveal she suffers from endometriosis, adding that the condition “sucks”. “I don’t want to belong to any club that would accept me as a member, but here I am,” the British model and television host wrote.

Chung didn’t elaborate further on her diagnosis but revealed how it impacts her daily life through the use of the hashtags: #endometriosisclub, #lifelongmembership, and #sorryifyouhaveittooitsucks.

Endometriosis is a common disease in which the tissue that is similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it in other parts of the body.

More than 10 per cent of Australian women suffers from endometriosis at some point in their life, according to Endometriosis Australia. Common symptoms include pelvic pain during a woman’s period. Despite affecting one in ten Australian women, endometriosis is a medical condition that’s notoriously under-recognised in both medical and public spheres.

Chung also took to her Instagram Stories to share a picture in her hospital gown. “This sexy lil’ number was completely open in the back and made from the finest printed cotton poplin. Ties and trims are grosgrain ribbon. One size fits all. Stunning bracelet made from digital print paper and sellotape (every bangle is personalised to order).”

In recent years, other celebrities have spoken out about their battles with endometriosis. Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins shared last year that she had to stop touring due to her intense endo, while radio host Mel Greig shared shocking pictures of the reality of living with the condition.
