Ever since she hit the VMAs sans make-up, Alicia Keys has become an unwitting poster girl for bare-faced beauty. Since then, she’s done gigs and even posed for photo shoots without so much as a flick of mascara – and each time, she looks absolutely stunning.
Rigorous skincare regimen aside (her make-up artist recently told W that Keys applies SK-II Facial Treatment Masks before appearances and gets regular facials), the 35-year-old musician credits her glowing complexion with one simple factor: she’s given up dairy.

“When I first got pregnant, I started to eliminate dairy from my diet and drank a lot more water, which made a huge difference to my skin,” she told Elle UK. Prior to that, Keys was plagued with problem skin: “I know how it feels to have a face full of bumps and pimples,” she says. “I lived through that in the public eye.”
Keys isn’t the first to attribute her skin woes to dairy, although the science remains inconclusive. But if recent photos are anything to go by, it’s definitely worked for her.
“Some have called this a crusade… I died laughing at that. I use to feel the pressure to appear as the music industry expected, but I don’t now,” Keys says.
