America Ferrera Speaks Out About Being Sexually Assaulted As A Girl

She was just 9 years old

America Ferrera has spoken out about being sexually assaulted when she was just 9-years-old in a devastating Instagram post.

The Superstore star joined the thousands of women who have shared their stories of harassment and abuse with the hashtag #MeToo.

Ferrera said the abuse occurred when she was in Elementary School.

“First time I can remember being sexually assaulted I was 9 years old. I told no one and lived with the shame and guilt thinking all along that I, a 9 year old child, was somehow responsible for the actions of a grown man,” she begun the post.

The actress explained that she was confronted with her attacker daily.

“I had to see this man on a daily basis for years to come. He would smile at me and wave, and I would hurry past him, my blood running cold, my guts carrying the burden of what only he & I knew – that he expected me to shut my mouth and smile back,” she revealed.

Ferrera ended her post with a call to action for other women to share their own experiences. “Ladies, let’s break the silence so the next generation of girls won’t have to live with this bullshit,” she wrote.

The Ugly Betty star’s post comes in the wake of more than two dozen women accusing producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment or assault.
