Animals Take Over Major Cities Around The World As We Stay Home

More than a fifth of the world is in lockdown, as we work-exercise-bake-sleep-repeat at home in a bid to flatten the curve.

But with coffee shops, schools and beaches deserted; animals across the globe are venturing into the unknown.

We may have put our European travels on hold but Parisian ducks are waddling through the city’s romantic streets whilst deer graze in the British sunshine – something sure to leave Londoners’ green-faced with envy.

From Welsh mountain goats strolling through the local villages to birds basking in the clear Venice canals, here are the animals reclaiming the great outdoors as we stay home.

Mountain goats in Llandudno, Wales

Bringing a whole new meaning to the term ‘squad goals’, mountain goats have taken to the streets of Llandudno in Wales.

The animals usually live on the rocks of Great Orme Country Park but with nobody around, they couldn’t resist popping into town.

Deer in East London, England

Londoners have been sharing their surprise at the number of animals taking over the lockdown capital from daring foxes to deer. 

In the photograph below, a herd of deer are seen grazing in the spring sunshine on a housing estate in East London. At least some can enjoy the welcome weather, huh?

Ducks in Adana, Turkey

Over in Turkey, ducks are waddling across Adnan Menderes Boulevard with social distancing measures meaning they have the place to themselves for a little while.

Deer in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka

A lone deer from a herd accustomed to being fed by the local population roams the deserted streets of Trincomalee in Sri Lanka.

Birds in Venice, Italy

Those who live in the city of Venice have reported an increase in the number of fish and ducks swimming in the canals in recent weeks.

The pandemic left boats abandoned under lockdown law meaning the water is the clearest it has been in years without mud-churning motors storming through.

We may have had to put our vacation plans on hold but Parisian ducks are taking in the sights whilst the City of Light remains under quarantine.

Deer in Nara, Japan

It’s not unusual to see deer in tourist hotspots throughout Japan but since the pandemic struck, herds of the wild animal have trotted into the city’s residential areas on the search for food.
