Anna Delvey Says She Won’t Be Watching ‘Inventing Anna’ Anytime Soon

"I was hoping that by the time 'Inventing Anna' came out, I would've moved on with my life."

In the mid-2010s, Anna Sorokin managed to trick New York’s rich and famous into thinking she was a German heiress by the name of Anna Delvey who was waiting to inherit a USD $67 million trust fund.

Over the course of a few years, Sorokin scammed businesses and her friends out of USD $275,000, before ultimately being caught and sentenced to 12 years in jail—she made headlines again earlier this year when she appeared in court wearing designer clothes after hiring a stylist specifically for the occasion.

The story made headlines when journalist Jessica Pressler wrote an article on Delvey, titled How Anna Delvey tricked New York’s party people for New York magazine.

Naturally, the story was always going to be picked up by Hollywood, with Shonda Rhimes and Netflix announcing that they would produce it for the small screen in a 10-episode series titled Inventing Anna.

Now, Anna Sorokin has revealed from quarantine isolation in an upstate New York prison exactly what it feels like to have a show made about her while she sits behind bars.

“I just don’t want to be trapped with these people dissecting my character”, Sorokin revealed in an open essay to Insider, “I am here because Immigration and Customs Enforcement decided that my early merit release from prison means nothing to them.”

Speaking on Inventing Anna, Sorokin shared while she’s “curious to see how they interpreted all the research and materials provided” she “can’t help but feel like an afterthought”.

“It doesn’t look like I’ll be watching Inventing Anna”, Sorokin said, “even if I were to pull some strings and make it happen, nothing about seeing a fictionalized version of myself in this criminal-insane-asylum setting sounds appealing to me.”

While Sorokin may not be a fan, we know that Julia Garner’s portrayal of the ‘Soho Grifter’ is one of the most highly anticipated of the year.

In the lead up to the show’s release, we’ve rounded up everything we know about Netflix’s Inventing Anna below.
