Anne Hathaway is the latest star to give the challenge a shot, sharing a little gift with fans on her Instagram, by dressing up like the Disney character that shot her into teen stardom: The Princess Diaries’ Mia Thermopolis. The cult film, which was released in 2001, might be turning 19-years-old this year, but Hathaway had no issues in expertly recreating the pose that donned the movie’s poster, pairing her ‘pillow dress’ with Thermopolis’ signature oversized sunglasses, headphones, and combat boots.
The only thing that was missing from her ensemble was the final touch of a sparkly tiara!
“‘A Queen is never late; everyone else is simply early,’” Hathaway captioned the post, referencing a quote Julie Andrews’ character, Queen Clarisse, told Mia. The nostalgic snap reportedly garnered over one million likes within two hours of Hathaway posting it, so it’s fair to say her fans appreciated the throwback.
If the actress’ reference to the iconic flick has reignited a yearning for a third The Princess Diaries film, we’re pleased to inform you that there might still be hope. In January 2019 during an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Hathaway said, “there is a script for the third movie. That is so cute [the audience’s reaction]. There is a script,” she said.
“I want to do it. Julie [Andrews] wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it so…”
