Ansel Elgort has some interesting views about love. He wants to be free to fall in love with other women, despite being in a committed relationship with his long-term girlfriend and high school sweetheart Violetta Komyshan. And it has nothing to do with sex.
“I’d like to find a lot more love,” he said when The Times asked him what he’d like to achieve before he turns 30.
“I think we’ve been pretty clear that I want to feel free to fall in love with people and that [option] should be open, but sexually it can be closed off,” he shared about discussions he’s had with Violetta about having an open relationship.
“I’m in love with a bunch of my male friends who I’m not interested in having sex with, so why can’t I put the desire to have sex with women aside and let myself have love with women?”
And he seems to already have one particular woman in his sights: Shailene Woodley. They starred together as love interests in The Fault In Our Stars in 2014, and then they played brother and sister in the feature film trilogy, The Divergent Series, and it seems they developed a strong connection.
“I love Shailene Woodley and we never had anything sexual and that was great. There will probably be some sort of chemical thing at some point that you can’t help, but you just have to be disciplined and not be a f******…We’re primitive beings.”
The one thing that may actually work in Ansel and Violetta’s unique situation is Ansel knows what life without Violetta feels like, after they went through a short five-month breakup, and he wasn’t a fan. “I knew something was missing, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s love,'” he said of their time apart to Details.
