Anya Taylor-Joy is continuing her fictional transition from the 1950s to the swinging ‘60s in the new teaser for her upcoming psychological thriller movie, Last Night In Soho. After a celebrated turn in the Netflix chess drama The Queen’s Gambit, the next period-adjacent plot she’s tackling will feature “a young girl, passionate in fashion design, who is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer.” As per the nature of a thriller, there are some twists: “1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences…”
Last Night In Soho will be helmed by English director Edgar Wright, (Hot Fuzz, Baby Driver) and is based on a story that he himself wrote. While the teaser trailer that has just landed doesn’t reveal much else about the intriguing premise, it does give us a hint at the rich visuals of the film. Think neon and red lighting à la director Nicolas Winding Refn’s work in The Neon Demon.

Beyond Taylor-Joy, the rest of the cast features considerable acting talents. Veteran English actress Diana Rigg, who you’ll likely remember as the acerbic matriarch Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones will play a character called Miss Collins. Terrence Stamp also joins the film’s lineup of impressive older thespians, while Shadow and Bone’s lead Jessie Mei Li and Doctor Who’s Matt Smith are also set to star. As to further details on their characters? More will likely reveal itself when the full Last Night In Soho trailer is released on Tuesday.
While Beth Harmon fans are still awaiting confirmation on whether a Queen’s Gambit season two will be greenlit by Netflix, Last Night In Soho is happily set for release on October 22 later this year.
