Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Announce Newborn Son’s Very Unique Name

It has a very special meaning

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have finally announced the name of their newborn son, and just like the couple, it breaks away from royal tradition.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s announced: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The couple have also decided not to give Archie an official title. While there are courtesy titles that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could apply to their son, they have chosen not to give him a “courtesy titles” at this time.

The name was somewhat surprising, as British oddsmakers’ top picks for potential names included more traditional monikers, like Arthur, James, Philip and Albert. In fact, bookies revealed just 60 bets were placed on Archie at 100/1, amounting to exactly $130.

Archie, of course, is a shortened version of the name Archibald, meaning genuine and bold or brave. Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll of Scotland was also an ancestor of Princess Diana’s. Using the nickname as a first name gives it a more casual, American vibe, while the baby’s middle name, Harrison, originated in the Middle Ages as a patronymic meaning “son of Henry” or “son of Harry.”

The surname Mountbatten-Windsor, meanwhile, belongs to all the children and descendants of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Stepping out at St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex introduced their adorable new bub to the world! Meghan wore a Givenchy dress alongside Prince Harry, who was in a grey suit for the occasion.

Asked what it’s like being a new mum, Meghan said: “It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy.” She went on to say that Baby Sussex “has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm.”

Harry then added, “I don’t know where he gets that from!”

“He’s just been a dream,” Meghan said. “It’s been a special couple of days.”

Harry added: “Everyone says babies change so much over two weeks. We’re basically monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month, really. His looks are changing every single day, so who knows?”

When asked about parenting, Harry said: “It’s great. Parenting is amazing. It’s only been two and a half days, but we’re just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy.
