The 5 beauty products you should keep in the fridge

You may be melting, but your make-up doesn’t have to

Just as Carrie Bradshaw stored her Manolos in the oven, so too should the fridge of any self-respecting beauty addict resemble a bathroom shelf – in that you should find La Mer and YSL in amongst the milk and yoghurt.

In high summer especially, certain beauty products will be much happier in the fridge than in the heat, which can break down active ingredients and ruin the consistency of your favourite formulas.

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Mist, $55.

1. Face mist

There is honestly nothing better than walking in the door after your evening commute and spritzing ice-cold facial mist all over. Following with an Aperol spritz, optional.

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream, $40.

2. Eye cream

Ditto eye cream on hot summer mornings – after your AM skincare ritual and before you apply your make-up, dot chilled eye gel or cream all around the contour of your eye to wake up the entire area and leave you feeling refreshed. The cool temperature will also enhance your product’s de-puffing effect.

Chantecaille Lustre Glide Silk-Infused Eyeliner, $41, Mecca.

3. Eye pencils

Make-up artists swear by this trick: pop your pencils in the fridge for a few minutes whenever you want to create a sharp, precise line. Perfect for hot summer’s days (or nights) when your make-up has heated up and is on the smudgy side.

Le Labo Santal 33, $330, Mecca.

4. Perfume

Heat, light and your precious bottle of Le Labo Santal 33 do not mix. Whatever you do, don’t store your perfumes in the humid confines of your bathroom or in range of direct sunlight– no matter how pretty they look arranged on your windowsill. Keeping them in the fridge, on the other hand, is thought to prolong delicate scents’ life.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster, $104, Sephora.

5. Vitamin C

Anything containing Vitamin C – be it a serum, moisturiser, mask – should be kept in a dark, cool place, away from direct sunlight. Popping your Vit C-enriched products in the fridge will prevent the active ingredients from breaking down before you’ve reaped their beautifying benefits.
