We love Karen Walker’s New Campaign

Oldie but goodie

In an interview with Jessica Martin recently for the ABC, Linda Rodin, who was in Australia to launch her makeup collab with Mecca, suggested the “Advanced Style” phenomenon was a fleeting one.

The phrase, coined by New York blogger and lover of lived-in faces Ari Seth Cohen has caught on.

Since he launched his Advanced Style empire (there are books and a movie as well as the blog) a few years ago, Rodin and her fellow grown up glamazons, people like Iris Apfel, have become fashion pin-ups.

Old is the new black! Why not? We’re all headed that way. And these women demonstrate that style has nothing to do with age.

“Ari is definitely part of that… but I think it was only a momentary trend: ‘Let’s give the old bags a go!'”, said Rodin, 68, adding that while she had modelled sunglasses for Karen Walker in 2013, she couldn’t see herself walking down runways. “I think it was a lovely nod to older women, but I don’t think we’ll see it again.”

Sorry Linda, we love you, but your’e wrong!

To prove it, here’s Walker playing with the grownups again, this time to showcase her latest jewellery line. Seth Cohen photographed Phyllis Suez, ex-Ballets Russes star, current 93-year- old fabulous person, and costume designer Roberta Haze, 78, with a focus on their hands,

“Hands can be every bit as expressive as faces,” said Walker. “These Magic Hands speak of a life well-lived and they absolutely have their own stories to tell.”

These pictures make us happy. Let’s celebrate all kinds of beauty, including the sort that has been around for a while. Go Advanced Style!
