Alexander McQueen’s London penthouse is on the market

It comes complete with a catwalk

The late Alexander McQueen was famed for his boundary-breaking aesthetic – who can forget the now-iconic Armadillo heels he gave the world in Spring 2010, the shockingly low rise ‘Bumster’ pants that pioneered the noughties hipster jeans trend or the Kate Moss hologram he sent down the runway in 2006.

So his choice of home should come as no surprise: a sprawling 1790-square foot penthouse in Mayfair, London, it boasts a breathtaking rooftop garden, walk-in dressing rooms (of course), dramatic spiral staircase, custom crystal chandeliers and bathrooms bedecked in Calacatta marble.

The luxury penthouse is now for sale for a staggering £8.5million, The Daily Mail reports. McQueen is rumoured to have paid £2.525 million for the property in 2009, before his tragic death in February 2010.

Heartbreakingly, McQueen gave an interview before his death in which he spoke of how much he was looking forward to decorating his new home. The current look is the work of renowned design firm Paul Davies London, which has styled the space into an homage to the late designer, complete with a hallway – sorry, catwalk – lined with photographs of McQueen’s most famous shows.

McQueen wasn’t the property’s only famous occupant: author P.G Wodehouse owned it before him, as did His Highness Alexander Mountbatten – grandson of Queen Victoria, no less.
