7 Things You Didn’t Know About Ivanka Trump

She’s Donald’s right hand woman, but did you know she dated Lance Armstrong?

She has a connection with Karlie Kloss

Your favourite supermodel and Ivanka Trump actually have a secret connection: both are in relationship with Kushner brothers. Ivanka is famously married to Jared, the publisher of the New York Observer, while Karlie has dated Kushner the Younger (Joshua) for several years. Both Kushners are scions of the Kushner real estate family.

But she used to date Lance Armstrong

In 2006, Ivanka had a brief romance with the cycling champion (before he was disgraced and revealed as a drug cheat in 2012), but the romance never kicked into second gear. She was also linked to actor Topher Grace and Hollywood producer Bingo Gubelmann.

She speaks to her father at least five times a day

Throughout the President Elect’s campaign Ivanka was a constant presence by his side, and she has famously been sitting in on his meetings with international dignitaries at Trump Tower since the election earlier this month. But even when the father and daughter are not together they are close: they speak at least fives times a day on the phone, a process that began when Ivanka was at boarding school in her teens. She would call him from a pay phone – collect – from the janitor’s closet. She’s widely held to be the favourite child. “If anyone else—even the boys—called, they wouldn’t necessarily be put through,” a source told The New Yorker. “He never did not take a call from Ivanka. It was like a standing order.”

But her BFF comes from the Clinton camp

Ivanka’s best friend and closest confidante is actually one Chelsea Mezvinsky (nee Clinton). The pair have been pals for years after being introduced by their husbands and “talk about everything” together, in the words of Chelsea, vowing not to let the election come between them. “Our friendship didn’t start with politics and it was last long after this race is done,” Chelsea has said. “May we be so blessed that our children will become friends as they grow up.” Ivanka has added: “I still consider her a very close friend, and she considers me as well. We have a great relationship. Of course we’re still friends.”

So close, than when Hillary Clinton made a bid for the Presidency in 2008, Ivanka was one of the donors to her campaign. Ivanka’s inlaws, real estate moguls the Kushners, are actually huge Democrat supporters. In 2000 they donated the single largest sum to Hillary Clinton’s senate campaign.

Her other close friend is Wendy Deng

Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife is another woman that Ivanka counts on. Ivanka has called her “one of those friends that inspires you to work hard.” The pair recently went on a holiday together to Dubrovnik, in Croatia. It’s not the first vacation that the friends have taken together. In fact, if the rumour is to be believed, it was Wendy who reunited Ivanka with her husband Jared after their split in 2008, because of religious differences. Reportedly, Wendy invited Jared to take a trip on the Murdoch yacht with “Rupert and me… for the weekend”, without telling him that she had also invited Ivanka. The couple reunited, and were married a year later.

She turned down a job at Vogue

While studying business and political science at college in her 20s Ivanka also made a name for herself as a fashion darling, appearing on the cover of magazines and modelling on the runway for several high fashion brands. So much so, that the day before her graduation from the Wharton Business School in Philadelphia (her father’s alma mater), she received a call from Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue, offering her a job.

“It never occurred to me that I would accept the job because of the focus that I’d had — I’d been at Wharton, I’d always wanted to go into real estate, so that was my path, and I was very polite in my refusal, if you will. But when I told my father about this experience, he asked me several times — several times almost to the point where it was a bit disconcerting to me why he was pressuring me to take the job at Vogue … I was a little bit upset about it.”

She was on a reality TV show

And no, we’re not talking about her stint on her father’s The Apprentice. We’re talking about Born Rich, a documentary about the lifestyles of the young, rich and famous in the ‘90s. In one episode, Ivanka showed the camera crews around her bedroom in Trump Tower, plastered with posters for Poison and Motley Crue.
