While we’re tossing up whether to spend our hard-earned cash on smashed avocado or a house deposit, the Financial Review has unveiled its list of the country’s richest people.
Of the 200 richest Australians named by the publication – just 22 women make the cut.
Predictably, mining magnate Gina Rinehart tops the list of the wealthiest females, with a cool $10.4 billion. Rinehart, now considered Australia’s richest farmer, is also listed overall as the third wealthiest person in Australia.
Her estranged daughter is the second wealthiest woman with $2.74 billion, followed by Vicky Teo with $1.91 billion and Angela Bennett on $1.76 billion.
The top five list of wealthy women is rounded out by Alexandra Burt and Leonia Baldock on $1.55 billion.
According to the AFR, the combined wealth of the five richest men is more than double the combined wealth of the top five females. There’s only six female billionaires of the 60 billionaires on the list. The gender wealth gap is real, my friend.
Meanwhile, Cannes Queen Nicole Kidman was named the highest ranked entertainer on the 2017 Rich List, with $347 million to her name.
That places her at number 197 on the list. Our Nicole has come a long way from her days as a BMX bandit.
