Just when you thought he couldn’t get any worse, Chris Brown decides to release a documentary about his life and, in said documentary, decides to go into immense details about the night he assaulted Rihanna, blaming her – like the man he is – for what happened.
In the doco Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life the musician says his relationship with Rihanna turned violent when she found out he had been lying about a relationship he’d had before they got together.
“From there, it just went downhill because it would be fights, it would be verbal fights, physical fights as well,” he said.
“I’m just going to be honest – we would fight each other, she would hit me, I would hit her,” he continued. Before throwing in “but it never was OK”, for good measure.
“It was always a point to where we talk about it like, ‘What the fuck are we doing?'”
Though Brown notes that their violent relationship wasn’t healthy, it’s victim-blaming to try and excuse his behaviour with the attitude of ‘well, she hit me, too.’
And seriously, after all these years, can’t he just man up and take sole responsibility for his actions and the physical and emotional damage he caused?
Brown then talked about the night which resulted in the photo of Rihanna’s beaten face, and the end of their relationship. Once again, being sure to highlight Rihanna’s fault in it all.
“She hits me a couple more times,” he said. “I remember she tried to kick me, but then I really hit her, with a closed fist, I punched her. I busted her lip.”
“When I saw it, I was in shock. I was like, ‘Fuck’ why the hell did I hit her? From there she just spit in my face, spit blood in my face and it enraged me even more.”
He said he eventually got out of the car and told Rihanna to drive home. “By this time her lip was busted she had a knock because I’d pushed her head up against the window.”
