Julia Louis-Dreyfus Broke Down In Emotional Emmy Win Speech

She talked about 'Veep', her father, and the political climate in the US.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus took away the Emmy for Best Actress In A Comedy and broke down in tears during an emotional victory speech. She also broke an Emmy record with her win – this is the sixth time she’s won this particular award.

She started off by making jokes about the current political situation in the US with the upcoming election, which she believes has become something of a farce.

“I would like to take this opportunity to personally apologise for the current political climate. I think that Veep has torn down the wall between comedy and politics,” said Louis-Dreyfus. “Our show started out as a political satire but now feels more like a sobering documentary.”

She even made a dig at Trump to top the joke off.

“I certainly promise to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it!”

However on a more serious note, she teared up when she dedicated her win to her late father, who passed away on Friday.

“I’m so glad that he liked ‘Veep’, because his opinion was the one that really mattered.”
