Larissa Waters Shares Abusive Message She Received After Breastfeeding In The Senate

But the majority of Australians commended her decision

Greens Senator Larissa Waters made history by feeding her daughter Alia Joy while moving a Senate motion in Canberra on Thursday.

“First time I’ve had to move a Senate motion while breastfeeding!” she tweeted afterwards. “And my partner in crime moved her own motion just before mine, bless her.”

While women across Australia praised Waters for her brilliant spot of multitasking, she also received ridiculous abuse for the act. On Twitter, the senator shared a shocking text message she had received:

Other Twitter users hit back with replies ranging from sexist to misinformed to straight up trolling.

But with every negative message came a wave of praise from Twitter users commending the mum’s decision.

Back in May, Senator Waters celebrated her decision to breastfeed in parliament: “I am so proud that my daughter Alia is the first baby to be breastfed in the Federal Parliament,” she said.

“We need more women and parents in Parliament. And we need more family-friendly and flexible workplaces, and affordable childcare, for everyone.”

What. A. Boss.
