Baby Discovered In Apartment Building Where Pregnant Woman Went Missing, Police Say

The infant is reportedly healthy and safe

Police have discovered a newborn in a North Dakota apartment building just five days after an eight-month pregnant woman vanished.

According to PEOPLE, 22-year-old Savanna Lafontaine-Greywind vanished after last being seen in her apartment in North Fargo on Saturday afternoon, August 19.

The two-day-old baby was found in the same apartment building where Savanna lives when officers carried out a search warrant.

Chief Dave Todd said police were unable to determine who the baby’s mother was, or any details about two people being questioned, CBS News reports.

“At this point in time, we are not able to confirm if the newborn is Savanna Greywind’s child or not,” he said in an update on Facebook.

“We do not have information that tells us where Savanna Greywind is,” Todd added.

Savanna’s mother, Norberta LaFontaine-Greywind, told Forum News Service that a woman living in their apartment building had allegedly knocked on their door and asked if Savanna would help model a dress she was sewing.

Savanna reportedly left the apartment but didn’t return.

“I immediately knew something was wrong because [my daughter’s] car is here,” Norberta explained. “She’s eight months pregnant. Her feet were swollen so she wouldn’t have taken up walking like that. There was pizza here that she hadn’t eaten. She would not just leave that lady’s apartment and go somewhere.”
