There’s One Glaringly Obvious Problem With ‘The Bachelor’ Contestants

Can you pick it?

The 22 women in the running for their five minutes of fame Matty J’s heart have finally been revealed, and Australian audiences have been confronted with an all-too-familiar problem: where did all the non-white girls go?

Judging from Network Ten’s promo shot, there are 10 blondes in this year’s line-up, as well as 11 brondes/brunettes and (gasp!) what looks suspiciously like a redhead.

What we’re missing? An accurate representation of Australian society, with embarrassingly little diversity among the Bachelor contestants beyond hair colour. As one Twitter user points out, dress colour is about as diverse as it gets:

In a statement, Network 10 told news.com.au: “The Bachelor Australia is cast on the applicants’ merits and race is not a factor influencing the selection criteria.”

“Eligible contestants on all Network Ten shows are considered regardless of race or background,” it continued.

Beyond this major oversight, you can’t say the line-up isn’t interesting. Take Belinda, the 34-year-old ‘love coach’ from Queensland, or body painter Alix, 24.

Which blonde aspiring Instagram star will Matty J choose? We wait with bated breath.
