Mother Heartbroken After Three-Year-Old Dies During Routine Dental Procedure

"I took my daughter to the dentist because they were going to fix her teeth"

When Californian mother Araceli Avila took her 3-year-old daughter for a routine dental procedure on Monday, the little girl was “very healthy” and “vivacious and full of life”.

Fox 40 reports Ms Avila’s daughter, Daleyza, was admitted to a children’s dental surgery centre to have two teeth removed and two teeth capped.

But Daleyza’s mother spotted an ambulance arrive during the surgery and was told by a nurse that something had gone wrong. She was informed her daughter’s heart had stopped.

“All I did was I took my daughter to the dentist because they were going to fix her teeth, and about 30 minutes later they brought her back dead,” Ms Avila said.

“I don’t want this to happen to another mother like it’s happening to me.”

The administrator of Children’s Dental Surgery Center, David Thompson, told Fox 40 that Daleyza had a reaction to the anesthetics. She was stabilised and then taken to Saint Joseph’s Hospital.

“It’s a terrible, terrible tragedy honestly and our thoughts and prayers are really with the family right now,” he said.

The Dental Board of California and the Stockton Police Department are currently investigating the tragic incident.
