An Italian woman has taken her own life after she became the victim of online bullying after a sex tape of her was posted online.

Tiziana Cantone from Naples reportedly sent the video to friends whom she trusted but it was quickly uploaded online appearing on porn sites and social media, reports Italian Newspaper La Repubblica.

Cruel online comments and video parodies which included the 31-year-old’s full name went viral online, and caused her to move house and change her name.

Earlier this month she won a legal case to have the abusive posts removed from Facebook, reports The Independent. While she also managed to have it removed from search engines, it continued to resurface.

Sadly however, after two failed attempts, this week she took her own life.

“She had always been a healthy, normal girl,” her mother, Maria Teresa told a court.

“Recently, she had been very unhappy. She suffered from everything she saw and heard, and in particular from the lawsuit, because she believed justice had not been done.”

Cantone’s friend, Teresa Petrosino, told Italian publication Corriere della Sera that she was “distraught” by the events.

“I wonder how anyone can be so fierce, how to rage against a girl who has not done anything wrong,” she said.

“I think that they should be ashamed of all those who have filled the web of insults and meanwhile secretly watched the images.”
