One of Emmanuel Macron’s first moves as President has got our tick of approval, with the French leader unveiling a gender-balanced cabinet.
Women now fill 11 of 22 posts in the cabinet across a broad political spectrum, the BBC reports.
The cabinet includes Olympic fencing champion Laura Flessel as Minister of Sports, and publisher Françoise Nyssen as Minister of Culture.
In January, Marcon made his position on gender parity in politics clear.
“Women currently represent 53 percent of the electoral body, so it’s unacceptable that they make up less than 30 percent of those elected to the National Assembly,” he said. “Unlike other political parties, we plan to respect gender parity.”

In 2015, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled a cabinet that, for the first time in the country’s history, was balanced equally between men and women.
“It’s important to be here before you today to present to Canada a cabinet that looks like Canada,” he said at the time.
