Asher Keddie Suffered “Huge Mummy Guilt” After Returning To Work

“I felt like I should stay home with him"

Offspring actress Asher Keddie has opened up about her struggles returning to work following the birth of her son, Valentino (now two years old).

Keddie returned to the Offspring set just months after giving birth, a decision she says left her racked with “huge mummy guilt”.

The 42-year-old star reflected to TV Week: ‘I felt like I should stay home with him, but actually, he was fine. He visited a lot and he was okay.”

“Some days at work, I feel fine and I’m really focused,” she continued. “And some days, there’s a little crack and I think, I wish I was taking him to that trampolining class. But for the most part, I’m comfortable that he’s happy and I’m enjoying myself at work.”

In the August 2017 issue of marie claire, the actress revealed how motherhood has changed her. “My priorities [and] my sensitivities have changed. For some reason I feel more flexible now about how things should or shouldn’t be. I was more black and white before I had kids.”

Since having “Vallie”, Keddie says she’s streamlined other aspects of her life. Exercise is “literally running after the boys [Valentino and step son Luca, seven].” And as for her so-called mum-uniform, she says, “I have 10 pairs of these jeans in different colours, and I’ve worn the same Isabel Marant boots for seven years. I’ve looked the same forever and ever.”

Unlike her daily outfit deliberation, the question of whether Keddie and Fantauzzo would like more children is harder for her to answer.

“We are definitely ‘never say never’ people. But I feel at the moment – and it might change tomorrow – I’m so grateful for the two children we have. The unit is beautiful and feels complete in a way, but I don’t want to shut that door quite yet,” she admits.
