Life with a newborn is great for Ashley Graham. But let’s not confuse great for perfect – because the new mum says it’s “not all rainbows and butterflies”.

On Instagram, the mother of one-month-old Isaac Menelik Giovanni Ervin said, “It’s been tough”, especially dealing with some normal new-mum stuff that she never knew to expect because no one ever talks about it.

Raise your hand if you didn’t know you’d be changing your own diapers too🙋🏻‍♀️” she wrote, showing off her postpartum figure in a bathroom selfie.

“After all these years in fashion I never could’ve guessed that disposable underwear would be my favorite piece of clothing but here we are!”

“No one talks about the recovery and healing (yes even the messy parts) new moms go through. I wanted to show you guys that it’s not all rainbows and butterflies! It’s been tough,” the model, who is notorious for being honest with her fans, confessed.

“But my friend Chelsea @cmrh and ceo at @fridamom is making waves and starting honest conversations. It’s unbelievable the obstacles we still face talking about what women really go through. All their stuff she sent me has been a life saver.”

Frida Mom sells a range of baby products, like a snot sucker, finger toothbrush and baby clippers, as well as not-so-glamorous-yet-essential buys for mum, such as maxi pads with built-in ice therapy to provide cooling relief, and disposable boyshorts undies like the ones Ashley is wearing that help “hold the layers of relief and pads during vaginal postpartum perineal recovery”.

Ashley and her filmmaker husband Justin Ervin welcomed baby Isaac on January 18, 2020, during a home birth in Brooklyn. Talking about the experience on her podcast Pretty Big Deal, Ashley said, “Now that I gave birth and I did it naturally and I felt everything, I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do. Like, there’s nothing that could come my way where I say, ‘Oh, that’s too hard. I can’t handle that.’ I went through laboring for six hours naturally at home. Right there in a big old pool. Don’t worry, it wasn’t on the carpet.”
