Food delivery service Deliveroo surveyed over 1,000 Australians to find out how important a shared love of food is in a relationship, and one third of Australians admitted different food tastes was grounds for a break-up.

According to the survey, over 30% of Australians agreed that food compatibility is the most important aspect of a relationship. In fact, 38% of Aussies say someone not liking their favourite foods is a deal-breaker.

Although, should you have mutual food likes, don’t expect to share. One in seven people confessed to hating sharing food (15%) while one in nine (11%) hate having food pinched from their plate.

Certain foods, in particular, were identified as major turn-offs. The survey found that offal, corned beef/spam, Brussel sprouts and licorice are most likely to put someone off dating you.

Sweet tooths, on the other hand, are more likely to be lucky in love. Aussies identified chocolate (70%), cheese (67%), chips (62%) and pasta (62%) as essential shared favourites.

Before your next date night, you may also want to brush up on your dining etiquette. Eating with your mouth open is the top pet peeve for 51% of Australians and eating loudly won’t win you a second date with 41% of Aussies. And don’t even think about Instagramming your food – 23% agree it’s poor form.

It seems the adage that a way to someone’s heart is through their stomach still reigns true. Especially among Australians.
