“It felt right to work towards a mood that is lighter, with a new kind of freshness, energy and happiness,” creative director Sophie Holt explained before the show, aptly titled The Optimist. “There’s a sense of ease throughout the collection. We were thinking about spending an afternoon outside in the garden, how it felt, and as always, colour was our starting point.”
Those colours were a gorgeous painterly palette of turmeric, rust, smoky blue, grass green, crisp white and lemon, realised in lush linens and soft printed silks. Accessories played a starring role – naturally, for a label built on leather goods – with slouchy oversized totes tucked nonchalantly under the arm, and shiny sculptural jewels and low-slung logo necklackes embellishing otherwise pared-back ensembles.
It was a collection ripe for summer holidays (whether near for now, or far in the future), but also served up elegant essentials to traverse work and weekends. “It’s about embracing colour and whimsy to wear something special,” said Holt. “Anything that makes you feel happy.”
